Cell Therapy 1 Center

Human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs), such as embryonic stem cells (ESCs),
somatic cell nuclear transfer derived pluripotent stem cells (SCNT-PSCs) and induced
pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), are emerging as important materials for the treatment of incurable
diseases, genetic disorders, and regenerative medicine in the near future.

We have established more than 80 hPSC lines, and performed maintenance,
characterization, and cryopreservation of the established hPSCs. We are also conducting
researches on differentiating hPSCs into desired functional cells, such as mesenchymal stem
cells (MSCs), retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPEs), etc.

Especially, hPSC derived MSCs show better proliferative capacity than
adult tissue derived MSCs and shows adult MSC-like characteristics in immunomodulatory
capacity and multipotency. We are also developing PSC-based cell therapy through in vivo
functional verification using animal disease model.
